I Have Announced It All

October 2, 2012

Pastors make a multitude of announcements in their careers. Professional sports announcers and radio personalities may make more but I believe a pastor’s are right up at the top in  the volume of announcements. Baby announcements are important. Informing people of showers, weddings and graduations are just a few of the many announcements I have made in my lifetime. Announcements for church activities are a category by themselves. Offering announcements, schedule changes and special events all constitute situations that require announcements.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have announced a car description and tag number for a car whose lights had been left on.

A few days ago, I made an announcement that I have never made before. Our creative worship coordinator handed me the license plate number for a car located in our parking lot. I assumed the lights were on or it needed to be moved. When he shared with me the problem I could not believe my ears.

I stood before our Wednesday morning crowd and announced the license plate number and car description followed by….. ”Your car is running!” That’s right. Someone had gotten out of their car, entered the church, and left their keys in the ignition and the car running. Our fellowship got an incredible laugh.  I enjoyed quite chuckle myself.

Now I have not only heard it all; I have announced it all.
